So I've noticed that this blog is still getting a few hits. Unfortunately, I'm not updating it as much as much as I used to since I started a blog on Tumblr some months ago.
I may revive this blog at some point but for now I think I'll just direct anyone interested to my sketch/art blog on Tumblr and my portfolio site.
Cheers and thanks for visiting :)

Golden
So I haven't been very active here for a while. I'm actually surprised that it's been this long. For a long time I just didn't have...time to do any art, no drawing and no painting. My bachelor project for school just kept me very busy.
For the last two months, though, I've been doing an internship in Ludwigburg, Germany and I find myself with more time on my hands.
Here's one of the paintings from my time here:

I've started using MyPaint a lot, mostly because Painter doesn't work on my current laptop. But MyPaint is really nice in that it has limitations. You can't transform parts of your image or move layers around on the canvas. I find that this let's me focus on the drawing and painting part of things and I have a lot of fun with it.
Try it if you get a chance.

More Tokens
So, since I had so much fun with the making the Steam tokens for Christmas I decided to make some more for my brother's birthday.
I was actually on the fence about doing this or not but I am very happy that I did. It's a great way to spend an evening.

Tokens
A little late, but Happy New Year and belated holidays.
My brother got some games off Steam for Christmas, so I made these 'tokens' so he had something to unwrap on Christmas Eve.
They were a lot of fun to make, and I was quite happy with the result :D

Roughing It
Hah, only been two weeks since my last post :D
I've been doing a lot of sketching in the evening lately, just random stuff, and decided to color some of them yesterday.
These were done in a something called MyPaint. Compared to the likes of Photoshop, it is somewhat limited in way of features, but that makes you work smarter, I think.
That's it for now, I guess. Have a wonderful day :D

Rain Dance
Been too long. But I think I'm back :D
Here's a painting for the good old taw-monkey site. Theme was 'rain dance', not that we need it where I am.
That's it for now. Hopefully it won't be another six months before my next post :D

Final Pitch
So time for the the final pitches came this week. I had prepared two pitches - none of them were chosen but I'm quite happy with the selection we got and I can can always keep working on my stories on my own and I intend to do so.
Anyway, here are my title images for the projects:
This story, Midnight Motel, replaced The Dumpling from last time, which wasn't really that strong anyway. Midnight Motel is the story of childhood sweethearts Fred and Barbara who come to a rundown roadside motel. Here, they have their already strained realtionship put to the test as they soon find themselves on the frontlines of an ongoing war between the creepy old motel owner and the resident forces of evil. It would be a comedy.
In other news, I was art director on a project here at school. You can watch it here.
Looking forward to the summer.

I pitched Bunto once again, though I changed the story quite a bit. In the new version, he falls in love with a regular young woman and does a lot to impress her. This story, Midnight Motel, replaced The Dumpling from last time, which wasn't really that strong anyway. Pitching
Last Friday we had what is called a pre-pitch here at the school. We had a chance to pitch ideas for our bachelor films and try out pitching before the actual pitch which is sometime in June. My pitches could have gone better, there's no denying that, but it was great fun and I'm glad I went and did it.
I now have the opportunity to work on my ideas, based on the feedback I received at the pre-pitch or ditch the ideas and come up with brand new ones. Still mulling it over.
Anyway, thought I'd show some pitch material here. The first pitch was Bunto, a story I've had in the back of my head since the first year. It stars a giant childlike forest spirit and a girl made of mist. The major problem I have with this one is that the relationship between the two needs work for the climax to grab the audience. Anyway, art:
My second pitch was basically a kung fu western. It was called 'The Dumpling'. A lone warrior (kind of a samurai) with a delicious dumpling head finds himself surrounded in a starving backwater town. There would be plenty of action and cool shots. This idea seemed to engage my classmates more than the first, sparking their imaginations. The problem with it is that it could easily just be a halfminute joke which isn't really bachelor film material. So unless I find some way to give it a deeper meaning and story, this could get ditched (for the bachelor pitch, anyway).

Jimmy
Another TAWmonkey piece. 'Jimmy' was the theme a few weeks ago. Some recent health problems delayed me a bit. I had trouble with this one. 'Jimmy' is a difficult theme, but I went with the fact that jimmy is another word for a crowbar.

Sorry I Forgot You
Okay, this one I rushed a lot. Tried out some faster and sketchier lines. I like something about it, but still needs work. Anyway, it's another TAWmonkey challenge: 'I'm sorry I forgot you'. I'll let you figure the story out yourself :D

Frère Jacques
Dormez-vous?
TAWmonkey once again. Theme this time round was 'Children's Songs'. I decided on the French nursery melody 'Frère Jacques'. In the song he is supposed to ring the morning bells but he's fast asleep.
Sidenote: I had a different concept as well, where Jacques was a vampire hunter/killer who would fight the creatures of the night with a magically religious bell in a country where night had lasted hundreds of years. It would have been a phony movie poster with the tagline 'morning bells are ringing'. Thinking I might do something with this some day. Happy I went the other way, though :D

Time Traveler
Again for TAW-monkey, theme: 'Time Traveler' Far too late did I realize how bad it looks from far away. Kind of a rushed piece so I don't mind too much.
Interesting note: I loved the show 'Seven Days' when I was younger (still do, when I catch it here and there), so I made the top of the cane a (simplified) chronosphere.

Konnichiwa!
Another taw monkey painting, this time the theme was 'face in the crowd'. I like to think he's trying to blend into an old monster movie. Or maybe he's there for the sights.
Anyway, great fun :D
