Gentle Dragon Done

And done:

Gentle Dragon

Okay, so this is kind of a wip, because I want to paint in a background, I'm just afraid to mess it up. So right now, this is the finished piece. Here's hoping it won't be for long.

Done in gouache on box cardboard late last night. God I love gouache.

New Banner WIP

I'm in the process of reworking the blog to make it better, and of course the current banner has to go. Here's a wip:

Kinda wanted to showcase a little bit of everything, you know, robots, creatures, characters, environment and story. Started off with nothing but a fixed idea of a robot with a gun in the bottom-right corner on the lookout for his target. Everything else was built up as I went along and changed rapidly and in a multitude of ways, a process that will probably continue on for a bit.

Something Traditional

Here's something I've been working on over the holiday, on and off, just to keep me at it.

Drawn with a technical pen on colored construction paper without pior sketching, and colored with some colored pencils, I had lying around. Getting it inside the computer was a hassle, but I survived :)

Done

Finished my interpretation of the Bastion's 7 character Zero. With time to spare, too. Zero and all other Bastion's 7 characters are © copyright Sean "Cheeks" Galloway.

I'm quite happy with how it turned out. I was going for a classic heroic pose as well as a retro-type color scheme. Hope you like it.

Now for something completely different, Ishmael and his Furry Companion:

Really happy with this one as well, especially because it was the first thing I did after a, to me, long break. Remember to check out my deviantArt page, if you feel like it, since not everything ends up here. And vice versa, actually.

Chiustream WIP

A wip of my entry for the next chiustream. I should get it in in time, but probably at the latest possible moment. The theme is to draw or paint one of the characters of Bastion's 7, a project belonging to Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, who also chose this theme and will be interviewed on the 29th. Having great fun so far.

Pin-Up for Chiustream

My entry for the latest Chiustream challenge. Was fun, but really difficult. Still think I could've done better. The joke is gold, though, I think.

Step by Step

Thought I'd post a step-by-step of the Super Tarsier.

And here's my shot at last Friday's Chiustream, the theme being "caterpillar". Very quick and sketchy.

Fear The Awesome Might of The Super Tarsier

Done the the most recent Chiustream challenge. The theme is "heroic animal" and was chosen by Francis Manapul. I chose to do a Tarsier.

In other news, I entered a contest at deviantArt. Follow the link on the left to my account there to see my entry.

Some Quickies

Like the title says, here are some quick pieces as well as some more practice. I think the one with the cow has potential.

J. Seiler

This is (supposed to be) a caricature of Jason Seiler, for another Chiustream challenge. It might have been a mistake to omit his eyes, but I think this looks okay.

Head Practice

Some fairly quick sketches I did earlier today. Wanna do it more often.

Another Chiustream and a WIP

Took part in another Chiustream challenge. The theme this time was something funny. This is what I came up with. Maybe not laugh-out-loud funny, but it makes me smile. The Bench Break:

As for the WIP I mentioned in the title, it's good old Fishface. Changed the aspectratio of the image and added a mock-background and a lunchbox. Looking forward to painting it, although I find it a bit daunting at this time. Want it to come out right.

That'll be all for now. I've done a bunch of paintings since my last post, though. They're on deviantArt.

Sigmund and Chiu-stream Fun

In the midst of my structure study yesterday I got around to painting the sketch of the circus bear from last post. I spent about 5 ½ hours on it, including research, and had a lot of fun with it. I give you, Sigmund the Circus Bear:

In other news, I was finally able to join in on a live Chiu-stream. Twice. There wasn't a lot of time to finish up, but I kinda like what I ended up with. Might finish them up a bit more at some point.

Latest Stuff

Had a really good weekend, productivity-wise. Thought I'd post my most recent works, as I've kinda been neglecting my blog.

So I've been listening to Bobby Chiu's Chuistream lately, the recorded ones that is, and I decided to try and do on of the challenges from the recording, so here's a 45 min. ghost:

After that I thought I'd do a few creature concepts, just to get a break from anatomy, but still make some progress. Here are three sea creatures:

The darkbellied Sea Rhino:

The Orange Half-turtle:

The White-bibbed Crocfish:

Of course I don't finish every piece right away, though I really want to, so here are a few WIP's:

Bellboy

Just wanted to post this before I go and watch Identity(the movie). The Bellboy.

Bear Mauler

I give you: the Bear Mauler.

Thought I'd post this one, too. Done while listening to Bobby Chiu's Chiustream. Really happy with it, though I find some of the props a bit lacking: the Judgment Creeper.

Warm-Up and a WIP

Been listening to Bobby Chiu and I'm feeling motivated. Anyway, here's some warm-up/practice sketches I did just to get the ball rolling:

And here's a WIP I started working on while listening to Bobby. It's gonna be about values and structure, this one, maybe character design as well:

Criminal Reptile

Another piece done in much the same way as the previous Zombie one. Went a little faster this time around. I imagine this guy is an interplanetary criminal, finally tracked down on Earth.

Zombie

Thought I'd show the process of a piece. Like with Fishface, I had a zombie character that didn't get done in time for Halloween. I redid the sketch a bit, and thought it could be fun to make it look like a scene from a movie.

Fishface WIP

Still just testing things. Here's something I'm working on. It's a re-imagining of a Halloween bit that didn't make it past the blocking in of values. You can still see the treat bag.

Excuse the notes.

Under Construction

Just testing things for now.
