Rain Dance

Been too long. But I think I'm back :D

Here's a painting for the good old taw-monkey site. Theme was 'rain dance', not that we need it where I am.

Konnichiwa!

Another taw monkey painting, this time the theme was 'face in the crowd'. I like to think he's trying to blend into an old monster movie. Or maybe he's there for the sights.

Cupcake Miracle

Red Poala

'The Red Poala is roughly the size of a grown man's head and is known to be completely still when being watched. This is the female of the species and is decidedly brown in color. The males, however, sport a vibrant red fur, explaining the name. Males are hard to find, though, as they only move about during mating season and hide for the rest of the year to protect their fur from sunlight.'

This was fun :D

Been a While

So, the CGHUB challenge... Fairytales Re-imagined.

I chose Little Red Ridinghood. Still happy with my idea, though I realize it doesn't stray too far from the original. Might work on it further some day.

Anyway, didn't leave myself enough time to paint it, spending a lot more time on the idea and concepting - which was fun. Went back and forth on the composition, too. Don't even get me started on values :D

So I'm not entirely happy with how it turned out, but here it is:

Overalll, a good experience. I also did some warm-up paintings that I'm quite happy with. I'll share those in another post.

New Carrot in Town

So, there's this challenge going on over at CGHUB. More on it later. Anyway, I'll be painting for the challenge, and realized that it's been a while since I've done anything more than a speedpaint, so decided to do this practice piece, trying to get back into it all. The Saint of Spades

Realized it'd been a whole month since my last post here, so thought I'd better update.

First of all, a gouache painting. The Saint of Spades.

I've had the sketch for this lying around for at least a year. Finally manned up and painted it over.

One of the reasons for my lack of updates might be that I've been very much into my school assignments - they're just a lot of fun :D So I thought I'd post some of my recent exercises here.

Finished these the other day.

These assignments are from our second week with Lawrence Marvit, and are mostly about value and rendering as well as composition. A fun week :D

The themes were 'giant monster attacks ancient Greece' and 'space pirate fight'.

A bit late, but happy New Year!!

Anyway, I've been busy trying to get something out of my holiday, drawing practice and various projects. Nothing really went according to plan, but here are some of the things I did get done. Some watercolor and gouache. Semi-happy with these..

Back to the new year - really looking forward to this year. Gonna do great things in 2011 :D

Ruoho and The Mist

Ruoho shows the Mist his favourite puddle/lake in the whole forest. In the next scene he jumps in - you'll have to imagine that one. I think this could be a fun character to work with some more. What do you think?

Done And Done!

Both paintings got done and are now hanging in the mess hall of the school. The place I chose to hang them is perfect for them, kinda dark with warm lighting - it's just a little hard to find them, perhaps. Pretty difficult decision, actually, but I thought that it was better to hang them where they looked good instead of where they were most visible. They want to be seen, and I'm sure they will be. Now, pictures:

Painting Update

A couple more pictures.

I really think the background color compliments the picture quite well. This isn't actually the finished version, though - I added some stone pillars in the distance.

The second picture is of my second painting - started today. Needs a little somethin' somethin', I think. Might work on it a bit tonight actually.

In other news: I ate broccoli for the first time today. Yay me!!
