An Unusual Cocktail

Marathon stuff again. Sketchoholic.com is the place to be!

This one was a lot of fun, I tell you. Unusual Cocktail:

Here's one from yesterday, started a little late. Two Face:

This last one was for a CHIUstream. Think it came out a little too flat in the end. Cute But Evil:

That is all. Cheers!

They come at Night

This was a big one. Took me like forever. I tried out several possible mediums before settling on 'tried and true' digital painting. Although I really wanted to do something special and traditonal this time 'round, I couldn't be happier with the result. Plus, was great fun :D

The most fun was coming up with the idea. Think of these semi-magical and dragon-like creatures as the bringers of nightmares or the nightmares themselves. They are curious by nature, but do their job well. Can you spot the youngest member of the group? (Hint: he's called 'Buttons')

This is of course my entry for the Chris Sanders contest over at sketchoholic.com - I'm a huge fan of Sanders, especially his comic, Kiskaloo, which you should definitely check out, and I am really looking forward to the interview.

For once I kept process pictures - enjoy them if you like:

Relieved and content.

Aloysius Again

Still battling with the 'Nightmares'-theme. Choosing the style is where I'm at right now.

Here's a pen drawing with digital colors:

Sketchoholic Stuff

So things over at Sketchoholic.com have been so crazy this this - so intense. Marathons all the time. 'Tis truly awesome :D

Here are some of my best entries, as of late:

Topics (from top left): animal on steroids, dinosaur princess, stuffed fanart, angry goblin, siamese twins, warrior princess.

And here's my entry for this week's CHIUstream. Topic: one tooth.

Aloysius

This is amazing!! Bobby Chiu will be interviewing Chris Sanders next week - Yippee!!

The Topic is 'Nightmares' and I'm getting started early on this one. Huge fan of Chris Sanders. Now, this is just a teaser, cause I don't wanna give to much away just yet - not even sure this is the way I'm gonna go in the end.

For now, though, enjoy :D

I Wanna Be The Very Best!

Finally got the piece to work for me and finished it today. Really happy with the result, especially because it caused me so much trouble. The epiphany that saved it all, was making the pokémon look like plush toys. Totally did it for me.

This is for Dice Tsutsumi's interview, by the way.

Check out my new hat - Durr...

For tonight's CHIUstream. Topic was 'fluffy animal mind control'. Great topic, had a lot of fun.

Could probably have gone fluffier.

How to trap Greedy Blobs

For a CHIUstream contest over at sketchoholic.com - wasn't planning on entering, but then a doodle got ahead of itself and I just went with it. It's a bit rushed, but I like it all the same. The topic was 'trap' and we had more than a week to work on it - I started today :D Had fun.

How do you like the new blogdesign? Not done yet, but I think it's coming along nicely.

Oh, and here's my entry for tonight's live CHIUstream.

I like the idea, but really wish I had more time for it.

Baby Chewie

Tonight I had the chance to enter a CHIUstream contest over at sketchoholic.com, and so I did. Topic was 'baby version of movie character'. Had trouble finding my angle, but settled on Chewbacca, the only character who came to mind. Sketchoholic kinda crashed around voting time and wouldn't reload which was a bummer, but I had great fun drawing Chewie :D

EDIT: I found out this morning that I won. Thanks to Bobby Chiu and the Sketchoholic phenomenon!

Raaargh!!

Done for last friday's CHIUstream (#45) over at sketchoholic.com. Well, okay I actually worked on this version here for a few minutes before uploading it. Nothing more than textures and some text.

First CHIUstream in a While

Finally had the time to join another live CHIUstream. Been far too long in my opinion. Months no doubt.

Anyway, theme was creepy/cute, and here's what I did. Not the best execution, but I like the idea.

I feel good :D

Done on time - feels great!

I'm particular fond of the little moustache thing he's got going on.

Cheers!

More Cheshire Cat

A little bit more. Having the worst time finding suitable colors. Pretty happy with the sketch so far, though :D

Hoping I'll find the time to finish it tomorrow. Been far too long since I've done this. Feeling good about it :D

Cheshire Cat WIP

Bobby Chiu is finally interviewing Kei Acedera and the challenge is to draw one's own version of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Don't have as much time to work on it as I'd like, but I think I'll make it. Here's a wip:

I thought it would be fun if he was really huge :D

Busy, Busy

Turns out it's quite easily explained :D

I'm going to a Danish folk high school, the operative word being "folk" - didn't know this the other day. It's basically a six month long course of sorts with room and board. I'm going there to learn about Graphic Design, be around creative people and figure out what to do with my life. It's gonna be good :D

Time, in which to do personal projects, will be somewhat difficult to find, however, especially at first, but I'll do my best to keep at it. The laptop, for instance, is a way for me to do what I do at home, but anywhere else, albeit slightly smaller scale. We'll see how things go.

I haven't had much time to do anything creative in the last few days, as preparations are taking up most of it. Plus, the stress and fear involved with this big change have been taking my head for a spin. I'm super freaking happy that I won the CHIUstream, but what a time to do it. That night I was really motivated and energized - I wanted to do everything: draw, paint and write, like I used to. My mind was just preoccupied, as was my body. It won't be forever, though, and I'll be ready - like Lar said : "no hesitation".

Anyway, here's something, I did manage to do. Brushpen sketches (black, red, pink), trying out a simpler look. I did several, but these were the best - from the one piece of paper anyway. Color overlay added digitally.

It Happened :D

I won a CHIUstream challenge, people. I can't tell you how giddy I am about it, I'm so excited. I've been doing these challenges for a while now, because they're fun, incredibly motivating and keep me learning and doing, but I've never expected to win - this is too amazing!!

It was Lar deSouza's challenge and out of five favourites he chose my Were-Chicken - how unreal is that :)

The prize is original artwork by the artist and deSouza made this wicked cool were-penquin.

Here's that chicken again:

So yeah, big thanks to Lar deSouza, Bobby Chiu and everyone else who made this possible. This is sweet!

Anyway, be sure to check out the CHIUstream thing - it's totally cool, and if you'd like to see more of my stuff, I suggest you go to my deviantART page.

This is Jonas, passing out from excitement :) Cheers.

Spalko

And this is Irina Spalko finished. I think it turned out good.

Thought I'd post my entry for the Chiustream last week, you know the one, where we copied Frederic Leighton.

The original painting is here.

The Were-Chicken

A couple of progress pics and the final thing:

Good fun, this one. Thought of making it black and white, but really happy I ent with color after all, especially around the face. Textures, too, were a blast to do.
