Took me long enough

I've been working on my entry for J. Scott Campbell's interview and contest over at sketchoholic.com, ever since my holiday started this friday, and now it's done. At first I couldn't really decide whether or not to even enter, because the theme was a tricky one: "sexy fairy tale character". The challenge would do me good, I thought, as it is miles away from what I usually do. I would have to really study anatomy to make it work and also read up on a few fairytales. I chose to do a fairy godmother because you don't see too many of those around.

Having settled on an idea, I ran into the next obstacle: should I paint or draw or both? I knew I needed to practice linework so drawing it would be ideal and the other day I figured out how to do line separation in Painter, so lines it was. I think I drew it three times before it came out right.

Tried something new for coloring, especially where the shadows are concerned. Hope you like it :D

Banner

So I got around to making a banner for my animation/student blog. Still dancing around making one for this blog. It'll probably be something like this or comepletely different - doesn't really narrow it down, does it?

Anyway, banner:

To see it in its proper place go here.

Ruoho and The Mist

Ruoho shows the Mist his favourite puddle/lake in the whole forest. In the next scene he jumps in - you'll have to imagine that one. I think this could be a fun character to work with some more. What do you think?

Did a few other scribbles before the above one. Some loosely painted women.

Time to Draw!!

So this week we animated scenes for some students from the Danish  Film School. We worked in teams of 4-5 people working on 5 different project. Anyway, the project took up most if not all my freetime, so I didn't really get to do much other drawing. So I've decided to start drawing more, you know, sketching. I actually fell asleep the other day thinking to myself that it's about time I learn to draw - sounds like a good idea, I think :D

Anyway, here are some sketches. I should show more of these here (this is a sketchblog, after all).

Also want to paint traditionally more, so here's a little gouache piece:

So I was busy this week, and so I wasn't gonna enter the latest sketchoholic interview and contest. Until three hours before the interview. Went super sketchy with this one and colored it loosely in Painter. Sketch and finished thing:

Also, I finally got to see 'how to train your dragon' - infinite shades of awesome :D
